Clean Label Project (CLP), the national non-profit known for recognizing brands that place an emphasized focus on purity and surpass the minimum regulations required by FDA, has officially bestowed Kabrita Goat Milk-Based Infant Formula with its highest level of purity stamps. This included three distinct certifications in First 1,000 Day Promise Certification, Pesticide Free Award, and Purity Award, all of them coming together to make Kabrita the first and only goat milk-based infant formula to achieve the stated honors. Launched in the US during the early part of 2024, the Kabrita Goat milk is sourced from goats on over 100 family owned farms throughout Netherlands. Once procured, it undergoes a highly rigorous process which involves over ninety quality checks. These extensive checks only add to those years of clinical testing to prove that Kabrita’s infant formula is safe and capable of providing complete nutrition for a baby’s growth in the first year. Making the commodity even more attractive of a prospect is goat milk’s innate potential. You see, goat milk proteins have been discovered to bear more similarities with breast milk proteins than cow milk proteins. Such a feature ensures that it is easier to digest. Anyway, going by the available details, the stated milk iteration also contains five times more naturally occurring oligosaccharides than cow’s milk, the third largest component of breast milk.
“The Clean Label Project certifications are an important third-party reassurance to the strict safety standards that go into our high-quality products. Our goal has always been to produce the safest goat milk-based infant formula on the market,” said Elieke Kearns, PhD, RD, director of medical and scientific affairs at Kabrita USA.
Coming back to the development in question, each of the Kabrita’s three new certifications confirm that the company has duly met all standards based on CLP’s industry benchmarks. For instance, if we look at First 1,000 Days Promise Certification, it unveils an in-depth review of a company’s food safety programs and independent testing to ensure compliance with key elements, including the regulatory stance on heavy metals and plasticizers. Next up, the Purity Award brings forth a mandate to conduct independent testing for heavy metals, pesticides, and plasticizers, while simultaneously benchmarking the test results against other similar products in the same category. Markedly enough, the Purity Award is reserved for products only in the top 1/3 of the category. Finally, there is the Pesticide Free Award, which aims to satisfy consumers’ demand in the context of reducing exposure to commonly used pesticides in foods. Here, too, the products undergo independent testing to verify they meet CLP’s standards.
“Goat milk-based infant formula is a welcome addition to the U.S. market and we’re thrilled parents can feed their babies with confidence knowing that Kabrita’s infant formula is of the highest quality and standards,” said Jackie Bowen, founder of Clean Label Project. “Babies deserve the very best and The Clean Label Project’s strict certifications provide an important reassurance.”
With an experience of more than 75 years, Kabrita is feeding, at the moment, over 1.5 million babies worldwide on a daily basis. As for where is it available, it can be purchased from the company’s official website, Amazon, and several national retailers including Thrive Market, Wegmans, Meijer, Giant, Fresh Thyme, and more.
